Innovative technologies put psychological concepts into practice in new and exciting ways. For the first time in an integrated learning product, the Chapter Apps feature invites readers to look at how real phone- and computer-based apps illustrate psychology in action. The apps can be downloaded for free or viewed on smartphones and computers, and each one is accompanied by critical thinking questions to guide readers’ evaluation. They are also assignable and assessable in LaunchPad.
My Take Videos
My Psychology is about showing how psychology is relevant to students’ lives. The My Take videos in every chapter share interviews with real Intro Psych students relating their own "take" or personal connection with important concepts from the chapter. Each video is open to view as well as assignable and assessable in LaunchPad to reinforce readers’ engagement with important psychological concepts when they are introduced.
Promoting Cultural Fluency
Understanding psychology means understanding and appreciating the many ways in which people are both similar and different. My Psychology weaves culture and diversity topics throughout the text—in the research and examples that are presented, the world described by the visual program, and in a fully dedicated chapter that unpacks such sources of diversity as sex, gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and more. Important cultural coverage in each chapter is marked with the Diversity Matters flag to underscore the centrality of these concepts.
The pedagogical system in My Psychology is designed to help readers track their learning as they move through each chapter. Each major section begins with a list of learning objectives (You Will Learn) and ends with a question corresponding to each one (Check Your Learning). At the end of each chapter, a Chapter Summary reiterates the main points and also provides the answers to the Check Your Learning questions. All three components—You Will Learn, Check Your Learning, and Chapter Summary—use asynchronized numbering system, so readers can easily see how they align and professors can track students’ progress.
Built around the most common issues faced in the classroom, LaunchPad gives students everything they need to prepare for class and exams including author-developed digital tools linked directly to the e-Book, and the acclaimed LearningCurve adaptive quizzing system. For instructors, LaunchPad offers everything you need to quickly set up a course, customize the content to your syllabus, craft presentations and lectures, assign and assess readings and activities, and guide the progress of individual students and the class as a whole.
LearningCurve creates individualized activities for each student, selecting questions—by difficulty and topic—according to their performance. Questions come with hints, links to the e-Book, and formative feedback for incorrect answers to help students learn as they go. When assigned, LearningCurve helps students come to class better prepared. Plus, embedded analytics allow you to see which topics they need help with so you can tailor your class time accordingly.
