In this chapter, we explain the main characteristics of univariate, or single-variable, distributions. First we define and describe frequency distributions, which researchers use to organize their data for statistical analysis. Then we focus on measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion, which can be used to describe distributions. Finally, we deal with the general form of distributions, emphasizing the normal curve.
