CHAPTER ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we introduce more sophisticated data measurement techniques by introducing index construction and scaling methods. In Chapter 7 we defined measurement as a procedure in which the researcher assigns symbols or numbers to empirical properties according to predetermined rules. We also discussed the structure of measurement, the idea of isomorphism, the four levels of measurement, and techniques for assessing validity and reliability. Using these skills and ideas, we can construct indexes and scales that can assess human behavior.
