CHAPTER OBJECTIVES

Based upon their reading Chapter 16, students should be able to:

  1. understand the concept of relationship between two variables.
  2. understand the principle of covariation and construct a bivariate table.
  3. explain the notion of proportional reduction in prediction error as a measure of the relationship between variables.
  4. calculate and interpret the various measures of association that are discussed in the chapter.
  5. identify which measures of association are appropriate for given levels of measurement.
