Module 21: The Psychology of Culture and Gender
Module 21 is the third and last module in the area of social psychology. The module centers on culture and its effect on our behavior. After giving a definition of culture, the section explains David Matsumoto’s four factors that influence culture and culture development. Individualist and collectivistic cultures are explained.
The field of cross-cultural research and some of its research are introduced. How cross- cultural research affects personality, development, and attachment is explained.
The module concludes by discussing ethnocentrism, the tendency to view the world from our own cultural experience. The module defines ethnocentrism and how it influences our behavior, as well as how gender and culture interact.
