Macmillan Celebrates 100 Million Downloads of Education Podcasts Contributing to Lifelong Learning Across the World

October 18, 2019

NEW YORK, NY - Macmillan Publishers announced today that its catalog of education podcasts just passed the 100 million download mark.

Macmillan publishes several educational podcasts, including its hallmark show Grammar Girl, under its Quick and Dirty Tips (QDT) network. Other podcasts include Everyday Einstein and Unknown History. The network also publishes the full transcript of each of the 1,500 education-related episodes for these podcasts on its website, to provide teachers and students with an additional way to accommodate various learning styles.

"We want to offer an opportunity for both educators and learners to use podcasts. Our podcasts offer the auditory learner the ability to customize the listening experience to yield the best possible retention of the content. A student can play, replay, stop and start at will, and use the accompanying transcript to further master the concepts and information presented. And teachers can assign the podcasts as part of their curriculum, allowing students to choose which format bests suits them," said Kathy Doyle, Vice President of Podcasts at Macmillan.

QDT has been publishing podcasts for educators, consumers, and business professionals since 2007. The network was founded by Grammar Girl Mignon Fogarty, who is considered one of the world's pioneers in the medium. Fogarty is the author of the New York Times best-seller "Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing," an inductee in the Podcasting Hall of Fame, and a former journalism professor. "It's a great feeling to know that starting from the simple concept of creating fun, concise, and informative podcasts, we are now helping so many teachers, students, and independent learners around the world to get the information they need," said Fogarty.

In partnership with sister company, Macmillan Learning, the Grammar Girl podcasts are available in the popular digital learning solution, LaunchPad for English. LaunchPad includes more than 100 Grammar Girl podcasts that offer students a different way to experience and understand the writing, grammar, and punctuation topics encountered in college-level writing courses. Students seeking reference materials can peruse options on the Macmillan Learning Student Store. According to Macmillan Learning General Manager, Susan Winslow, "Teaching students the art of writing is a responsibility we take very seriously. We work with the best and brightest researchers and educators to ensure our learning materials are of the highest quality and designed to move students' skills forward. The Grammar Girl podcast series is a creative learning tool that we were excited to be able to offer students as a benefit of our close relationship with our colleagues at Macmillan. It's wonderful to work at a company committed to all kinds of lifelong learning ventures."

Currently, all QDT podcasts are available on Apple and other podcast distributors. All episodes of Grammar Girl are also offered ad-free on the Stitcher Premium app.
