Macmillan Learning to Host a Higher Ed Summit on Active Learning, Affordability, & Insights

Event seeks to bring together thought leaders and stakeholders poised to make a measurable impact on retention and graduation rates for college students

May 9th, 2018

NEW YORK. Macmillan Learning, a premier educational solutions and insights provider, today announced the dates and location of its 2018 Higher Ed Summit. The Summit was created to bring together a diverse audience of higher education faculty, technologists, administrators, and first year experience coordinators to collaborate, discuss, and identify concrete strategies that improve student outcomes. With a renewed focus on affordability, program assessment, and student retention at colleges and universities across the country, the Higher Summit will bring together the stakeholders poised to make a measurable difference in the lives of college students.

"The industry continues to evaluate strategies for improving performance on learning outcomes that lift retention and graduation rates," stated Macmillan Learning CEO, Ken Michaels. "We must work together to increase the likelihood of success for students. Data science, nudge interventions, and transparency between departments on campus are paramount to achieving our shared goals of helping more students cross the finish line. At Macmillan Learning, we take our mission of improving lives through learning very seriously, and I feel fortunate to be a part of this special event for the teaching and learning community."

The Macmillan Learning Higher Ed Summit will take place at the new Omni Louisville hotel June 11 - 13, 2018, and will feature sessions focused on student engagement and active learning; affordability in higher education; data and insights for program assessment and improvement; as well as student success and retention strategies.

The keynote speakers for the Higher Ed Summit are former Dean of Freshmen and Undergraduate Advising at Stanford University and New York Times best-selling author, Julie Lythcott-Haims, and Dr. Tim Renick, Senior Vice President for Student Success at Georgia State University. Other esteemed speakers and panelists include two of iClicker's co-founders, Dr. Mats Selen and Dr. Tim Stelzer, both of the University of Illinois; Dr. Kate Biberdorf of the University of Texas; Dr. TJ Bliss, of Wikipedia Education; Dr. Robbie Melton, Tennessee State University professor and former Vice Chancellor of Mobile and Emerging Technologies for the Tennessee Board of Regents. "I'm delighted to be rejoining my former colleagues in Higher Ed for a conversation about how we can best improve student engagement, retention and success for all students - especially those who may be most vulnerable to attrition," said Lythcott-Haims.

Registration for the Higher Ed Summit is only $299 and the registration fee includes two-nights lodging at the brand-new Omni Hotel Louisville, continuing education credits, and all meals. There are also additional discounts for multiple attendees from an institution of higher education as well as discounted graduate student pricing. "We have a spectacular lineup of higher education thought-leaders and innovators," said Craig Bleyer, General Manager of Macmillan Institutional Solutions. "Too often conferences of this caliber are so expensive that only a few people from one institution can attend. It was important for us to keep the cost to attend low so that it would not prohibit stakeholders from collaborating to tackle the most pressing issues in higher education. Our intention is that attendees come away from the Summit with substantive strategies and tactics to meet their personal and institutional goals for student success."
