"I just finished your textbook Dr. Belsky and, goodness, you have a talent for writing them! Best textbook I've ever read. You have generated a great deal of extra excitement for my new career with the content you've provided. Thank you.”
--Mark Huberty, Student at the University of Saint Thomas in Minnesota"I could not help but contact you, Dr. Belsky, just to let you know how big of an impact your style of teaching had on my approach towards my field. I did not expect developmental psychology to be my favourite course this year but because of you it did become. I absolutely loved the book and I read every book for my courses this year but none of them had such an impact and none of them 'made me' read it. Therefore, I just wanted to thank you for this experience and knowledge you gifted me (I enjoyed it so much, the information just stuck with me).”
-- Student, Tillburg University“Janet Belsky has a warm, engaging style that allows students to learn important concepts and information that will benefit their personal and professional lives.”
-- Wendy Bianchini Morrison, Montana State University-Bozeman“Dr. Belsky is an amazing writer! This is one of the main reasons I was drawn to her text. She explains development in a conversational, entertaining manner to the students. She has a gift of making complex science seem understandable, especially for the freshman and sophomores that are taking this course who may not be psychology majors.”
-- Chrysalis Wright, University of Central Florida“An engaging book with a high degree of accuracy that reflects the dynamic nature of developmental science. The text challenges readers with critical thinking questions, which I highly value.”
-- Josh Herrington, Mt. Hood Community College“It's very current and written in a way that's easy for students to understand. It also includes a section on ethnic identity which I haven't seen in previous texts that I've used.”
-- Gladys Green, State College of Florida Manatee Sarasota

Janet Belsky
Born in New York City, Janet Belsky always wanted to be a writer but was also very interested in people. After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, she deferred to her more practical and people-loving side and earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Chicago. Janet spent her thirties in New York City teaching at Lehman College, CUNY, and doing clinical work in hospitals and nursing homes. During this time, she wrote one trade book, Here Tomorrow: Making the Most of Life After 50, got married, adopted a child, and, with the publication of the first undergraduate textbook in the psychology of aging, began what turned into a lifelong developmental science textbook writing career. In 1991, Janet moved to Tennessee with her family to write and teach undergraduate courses in psychology at Middle Tennessee State University. After her husband died in 2012, Janet moved to Chicago and developed new passions: enrolling in the Master’s Program in Liberal Arts at the University of Chicago, volunteering to teach older adults. Still, she remains committed to her enduring mission—exciting readers in the marvelous human lifespan through writing Experiencing the Lifespan.
